A deer grate is a very heavy structure made of concrete (7000-9000 lbs) or metal (1800- 2500 lbs) that is placed over your driveway entrance, with deer fencing on either side. A deer grate has hollow slats in which the deer won't walk because of uneven footing. A deer grate is used in place of or in addition to a driveway gate and is 100% effective when installed properly and maintained.
Concrete Deer Grate
Our concrete deer grates are not to be confused with cattle grates or cattle guards. These grates have been proven to exclude deer and other animals and have the proper spacing for that purpose.
Advantages: 1) Rust Proof: (customers sometimes use salt to melt the snow/ice in between the openings) - also can accept paint 2) Strength: Meets state highway regulation standards, can accept travelling weight of vehicles that travel the roads - also won't move over time because of grate weight 3) Can accept all oil truck and pool water truck traffic
Disadvantages: 1) Very heavy - needs to be placed with a crane mounted vehicle 2) Chipping - concrete can be chipped by snowplows if plow blade hits grate, for example.
Metal Deer Grate

metal deer grate, usually consisting of 3" round schedule 40 pipe welded or bolted to "I" shaped steel beams.
Advantages: Lightweight, can be placed with skid-steer or tractor transported on a trailer
Disadvantages: Not as strong, can't support all types of driveway traffic, will rust, usually bolted together and sand/salt mix on grates not suggested.
